Membranes in Filtration, Tuesday, July 27

WFI provided yet another fantastic course on Liquid Filter Testing and Evaluation. It occurred yesterday July 20, 2021, with Dr. Swarna Agarwal as our instructor. Dr. Agarwal used her professional knowledge to provide an excellent course. The class was well attended and featured four panelists to aid in our active question and answer periods during and after the course. We would like to thank our panelists Ms. Susan Goldsmith, Dr-Ing Nicolas Petillon and Dr. Vincent Hu for their valuable assistance during the course.

Next Course: Membranes in Filtration

Membranes are one of the most dynamic sectors in Filtration from Forward Osmosis (FO) to Reverse Osmosis (RO) to Nanofiltration (NF) to Ultrafiltration (UF) to Microfiltration (MF). This course is to provide you with an overall understanding of the membrane market, technologies how to make MF/UF/NF/RO membranes, desired performance characteristics of the various types of membranes for different applications, and how to convert membranes into highly functional filtration devices. The unmet needs and trends for future development will also be addressed.

Mr. Scott Yaeger is currently President/CEO of Filtration and Separation Technology International, Inc. Dr Wilson Poon is a Senior Scientist at W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. based in Elkton Maryland and will be our special guest panelist for this course.

Mr. Yaeger has over 40 years with a broad range of experience in Membrane Filtration with several market leading manufacturers and marketers including Sartorius, Cuno/3M, Gelman/Pall, and PTI Advanced Filtration/Parker Hannifin. He has held worldwide senior level positions in Sales, Marketing, Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, and General Management. Since 2004 as President of FAST Consulting, LLC, he has assisted in the development of new membranes into new and existing markets, new membrane device technologies, and new membrane applications for multiple market-leading filtration companies. Scott was the Founding Chairman of the American Filtration and Separation Society (AFS), a past member of the Board of Directors, and Program Chair. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Electrocoat Association (EA).

Dr. Poon has more than 30+ years of research and development experience and is a Senior Scientist in the research and development of air and liquid filtration; 20 years of that in membrane research. Some of his products received American Filtration & Separation Society’s Product of the Year and Du Pont’s Plunkett Award. He is currently an advisor to US EPA Environmental Technology Verification Program, ISO TC 142 WG9, European Turbine Network Air Filtration Standard. He has been a board member and conference moderator for the American Filtration & Separation Society and holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Minnesota (Particle Technology Laboratory), 1997.
