Today's Course: Air Filtration for Hospitals

Waterloo Filtration Institute (WFI) is pleased that we successfully concluded our comprehensive program on Air Filtration for Hospitals today, July 11, 2023, 8:00-10:00am, EDT. Led by esteemed instructors Dr. Iyad Al-Attar and Mr. Steve Nicholas, moderated by Mr. Mitch McCreary, the session was enriched by the wisdom of our panelists Dr. Jenny Berens, Ms. Kathleen Owen, Dr. Mehdi Shirmohammadi, Mr. Chris Muller, and Dr. Christine Sun.


The course explored various intricacies of air filtration requirements, principles, and practical application in hospital environments. Dr. Al-Attar provided an in-depth understanding of the challenges, filter selection, performance factors, climate, operation conditions, and technological advancements in air quality measurement and monitoring. Further, the discussion on filter maintenance and disposal practices was a vital aspect for ensuring optimum functionality and adherence to safety standards.


Mr. Nicholas shed light on the crucial aspects of HVAC maintenance and in-situ filter testing. Dr. Shirmohammadi presented a new bacteria and gas removal filter media. Ms. Owen introduced the new ASHRAE Standard 241-2023, Control of Infectious Aerosols, and its significance in the context of hospital environments. The session concluded with a lively panel discussion, where participants engaged in a meaningful exchange of ideas and shared their insights on industry practices and future trends.
