Waterloo Filtration Institute Announces Name Change to World Filtration Institute. The abbreviation WFI and logo remain the same.
Over the last few months, the Waterloo Filtration Institute has begun the process of changing our name to the World Filtration Institute. This is a change that many of our members and Advisory Board members have discussed for some time, and we feel that now is the right time to make the change. We’ve already begun changing the way we describe our organization, along with the various public brand identifiers, and we will make the change official at our annual conference in December.
This change is not an aesthetic one, but rather reflects the growing reach and mission of an organization that seeks to address some of the greatest global challenges of our time, through the advancement of the field of filtration. These challenges include climate change, urbanization, human migration, decarbonization, and many more, and filtration is instrumental in the ways that humanity addresses these critical issues for future sustainable prosperity.
The name change also reflects the growth and composition of the organization itself, as it has expanded from a small group of committed industry activists to a worldwide organization with members from five continents and over 20 countries and students from more than 30 countries. The effects of the changes we address are most severe in the most vulnerable places, and it is our mission to reach those places, engage with committed people there, and help to empower a new generation of problem solvers.
The Waterloo Filtration Institute was named for the venue where a small group of visionary leaders, led by Dr. Christine Sun, founded the organization. This name has honored the origins of the organization, and our new name will honor the scope of our ambition. Thank you for your participation in the WFI mission, and please join us as we engage even more broadly with global challenges as we pursue Sustainable Prosperity through Filtration.
